Biography.....

Originally formed in the Summer of 2006, the current line up of the Deadly Romantics gathered in Glasgow at the beginning of 2008. Each member brings something different to the table, whether it be the 70’s British Rock like Led Zeppelin brought into the fold by the bands newest member, Phil on the drums, or Classic Rock such as UFO, The Sensational Alex Harvey Band or Thin Lizzy favoured by Gary on Guitar. Cal has his roots in more eclectic music from Zan Lyons to Black Sabbath, and Thunder lives in the gutter with Zodiac Mindwarp and the Love Reaction, The Quireboys, Enuff Z’Nuff and The Dogs D’Amour.

As quoted in “Scream My Name”, the primary goal of The Deadly Romantics is to “bring rock and roll back to the masses”. “I hate dance music, the dance scene and the whole dance culture,” says Thunder, “and you can relate that to several other genres of music, whether it’s Indie Rock, or Emo or whatever, there’s only one true music and that’s Rock and Roll! There is a great scene kicking around the UK at the moment with bands like Peepshow and the Gasoline Queens, and it’s great to see guys like Tyla, Spike and Zed still playing up and down the country.”

“Do You Wanna Rock and Roll” will be released through Daze Records in July and will include the title track and three other original compositions. “New York City”, “Scream My Name” and “Fucked By Rock and Roll”. Thunder adds his comments to the track selections:

“Do You Wanna Rock and Roll”was inspired by crowd participation. It’s one of those songs where after to hear the chorus once, the crowd is just singing along with you. We almost always open the show with it, just to get the crowd involved, there’s no feeling like having an audience sign your music back to you. It’s a zero to sixty in three point zero seconds to sweaty heaven!!

“New York City”is about a tour I did with my old band “Britney’s Krack”. It was a nightmare! You think that playing in a rock and roll band, New York City is the Mecca of Rock and Roll and it really is a shit town. Four of us cramped into a tiny hotel room, no money, getting kicked out at 4am, losing our Bass player on the lower east side, crack heads, hookers you name it, what a dump! And CBGBs really is a shit hole!!

“Scream My Name”is my homage to Zodiac Mindwarp and the Love Reaction. It was totally written with all those classics like “Prime Mover”, “Backseat Education” and “Planet Girl” in mind. Zed is a lyrical genius. It’s all about being the Rock and Roll God coming back to save the masses from their mindless wanderings in the Valley of Pointless Music and seeing the light, and discovering the ways of ROCK!! Very Jack Black eh??

“Fucked By Rock And Roll”just more of my hatred for Screamo, Emo, Indy Rock, Dance culture etc. I imagine the band setting up in a dance club, and all these people waiting to hear what we’re going to be playing, the opening chords ripping through them and screaming “You just been fucked… by rock and roll…”
